The case, writ and application Symbol or code using in the Supreme Court of Nepal

The Courts are using specific codes and symbols for specific case types in the case numbers. These codes or symbols are helpful for identifying the nature of cases.

The general people even beginner of law students also difficult to determine what type of case is it. Therefore here in the article, we provide some basic code and symbol, which is using by the Supreme Court of Nepal.

The following code and symbols used in between the case, application, and writs numbers.

Code/symbols

‘AP’ Normal Application (निवेदन)

‘FN’ retail application (application linked with the existing case, writ), (फुटकर निवेदन),

‘RE’ Report (प्रतिवेदन),

‘RI’ Petition (Section 12) दोहो-याई पाऊ निवेदन (दफा १२)

‘LE’ permission request (अनुमती निवेदन)

‘RV’ review petition (Article 11) (पनरावोलकन निवेदन (दफा११)

‘NF’ Nissa provided for Full bench (निस्सा प्रदान पुर्ण)

‘CI’ civil appeal (Article 9) (देवानी पुनरावेदन (दफा ९)

‘CR’ Criminal Appeal (Article 9) (फौज्दारी पुनरावेदन (दफा ९)

‘RC’ Seeker (Article 10) (साधक (दफा १०)

‘SA’ Summary (संक्षिप्त)

‘MS’ Miscellaneous MS (Article 17) (विबिध (दफा १७)

‘ND’ Nissa provided joint (निस्सा प्रदान संयुक्त)

‘RB’ Revenue Commerce Appeal (Article 9) (राजश्व बाणिज्य पुनरावेदन (दफा ९)

‘CF’ Criminal full bench (फौज्दारी पुर्ण)

‘DF’ Civil full bench (देवानी पुर्ण)

‘RF’ Revenue Commerce full bench (राजश्व बाणिज्य पुर्ण)

‘WO’ General writ (साधारण रिट)

‘WH’ Habeas Corpus (बन्दिप्रत्यक्षिकरण)

‘WS’ Special writ (विशेष रिट), it does not exist, only for the old case,

‘WF’ Writ for full bench (पूर्ण रिट)

‘WC’ Constitutional writ (Constitutional bench) (संवैधानिक रिट)

‘CC’ Constitutional cases/issue (संवैधानिक मुद्दा), that cases only heard by the Constitutional bench,

‘EC’ Election Writ/cases (निर्वाचन सम्बन्धी रिट)

Example and clarification:

“077-AP-0015”,

In the above case number, the first three digits ‘077’ refers to the year (in Bikram Sambat B.S.), the second code refers to specific case types and the third four digit numbers refer to the classified unique case or writ of application number.

In the ends,

The codes or symbols of high courts and district court may be different from the Supreme court code and symbols but for general writ and habeas corpus, the code number is similar.

The new CMS system of judiciary is creating universal case numbers for the all-level courts. If the case registered in the District Court, this number is also used in the appellate courts.
